Empirical Research in Homoeopathy: The Collection and Use of Raw Data
Abstract
The collection of data, and its appropriate analysis using recognised statistical techniques, is at the heart of most empirical research. Dr Golden will discuss briefly his experience collecting research data since 1986.
Using parts of this data to illustrate his arguments (the impact of both vaccination and homœoprophylaxis on the incidence of asthma and other chronic diseases in our community), Dr Turville will explain in straightforward terms some of the analytical techniques that statisticians and epidemiologists use to draw conclusions, as well as some of the pitfalls facing researchers. He will show how easily data can be manipulated to draw pre-set conclusions, and how we might discover such manipulations when reading research articles in the literature.
Biography
Dr Christopher Turville is a lecturer in statistics and mathematics at the University of Ballarat, School Of Information Technology and Mathematical Sciences. He has a special interest in Homœopathy and health statistics. He has co-authored a book on Introductory Physics, and authored and co-authored many technical articles, papers, and presentations. He began studying Homœopathy with Dr Isaac Golden in 2007, and is presently re-working Isaac’s research data analysing the safety and efficacy of long-term homœoprophylaxis.
